Let your hair down! - hairstyles for summer festivals 2008
Wed, 06/25/2008 - 11:10 | 1 comment
With Glastonbury only a couple days away, festival season is officially open! But everyone knows that festivals nowadays are not only about music. Fashion magazines are full of advice of what to wear and how to wear it during oncoming music fests - and rightly so, considering that 1/3 of girls going to a music festival will buy a new wardrobe for the event!
So if you are planning on going to Glasto or any other fashion show…hm…I meant festival, why not getting a festival hairstyle?! Below you’ll find a few suggestions for every type of hair!
1. Glasto style for long and mid length hair.
Long, messy hair goes with festivals like...well, it goes really well. Let your hair dry naturally: forget about hair-dryer and your pink GHD! Don't even brush your hair unless it's absolutely necessary - and you'll be a boho chic in no time!
2. Festival style for short hair.
Short hair is a great idea for a festival: you don't have to brush it, it may easily go without washing for a few days and if anything a bit of dirt may help you style it!
3. Festival up-dos.
This may be the safest option: bun combined with sturdy braid will not only give you the so much desired hippy look but it will survive sun, rain and mud!

Chopstick up do - easy like one, two...
Wed, 06/11/2008 - 14:12 | 2 comments
This is one of my favourite hairdos! It's so easy and quick. It works great with mid-length hair as well as long hair and all you need is a pair of chopsticks or pencils.
5-minute up do "how tos":It really doesn't get any easier. Follow the instructions in the images, from left to right.
1. Get your hair in a low pony tail and twist it as if you were styling a chignon.
2. Once you have a nice twist going, pierce it from the top with one of the chopsticks. Try to go for the thickest part of the chignon.
3. Turn the chopstick 180'' or until you can't any more; chopstick should point upwards. The twist should get really tight at this point, so ignore the feeling of discomfort - it's totally worth it!
4.Now the toughest bit: turn the chopstick towards your head and down, piercing again through the chignon.
5. Now simply take the second chopstick and use it to pierce the bun, like in the bottom pictures.
Voilà! your up do is ready!

Hot spring/ summer 2008 trends - buns!
Wed, 04/16/2008 - 08:44 | 2 comments
Buns are really hot this season and they come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you need a hairdo for a party or you're experiencing one of these bad hair days - hair bun is a something for you.
This spring/ summer we love sleek twisted knots as seen at Oscar de la Renta an Max Mara. They are easy enough to make yourself and interesting looking - so you won't look like your own grandma!
Hair bun "how tos":
1. Wait a day. It's easier to make a bun if your hair is not squeaky clean.
2. Start from a ponytail . No matter if you are going for a messy look or a plaited "cross bun" this is a good place to start. Scoop your hair at the base of your neck and make a ponytail, tease it if want more volume, make a braid or simply twist it!
3.Use accessories. Don't forget about this year's must - have ornamental hair pins and bandos. They will not only keep your bun in place but add this extra feminine touch!
Now you're ready to let your hair down!

My hairstyle icons - Brigitte Bardot
Mon, 04/07/2008 - 13:12 | 1 comment
When looking at pictures of Brigitte Bardot I can easily understand why she was a sex symbol of 50's and 60's - a sex kitten - look at that hair!!
Bardot's mane is a fantastic example of what I call a "vava voom hairstyle" - loads of volume and texture. Look at Jessica Simpson (or her extensions), Giselle Bundchen for modern day examples!
Brigitte's hairstyle "how to's ":
For a long style : Whenever you want to achieve voluminous hair start with appropriate shampoo and conditioner. Blow dry your hair straight and apply hot rollers - they will give you volume and wave.
Divide hair into three sections and clip to keep them out of the way. The sections should be on each side of the head and at the back. The back section should start just before the top of the head. Clip about an inch to two inch sections of hair, depending on your preference.
Tease each pinned section. Take a section of hair between your fingers and spray with hairspray. Then, pulling hair in the opposite direction of growth, back comb with a comb or brush.
Smooth the teased sections. Flip the teased section of hair back in the natural direction of hair growth. With a brush, smooth just the top part of the section by brushing it down. Keep the bottom hair rough.
For an updo: For this style you will need a lot of height at the crown so ...More teasing! Spray your hair with strong but light hair spray. You might want to try for that extra "ooomph" like Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. Tease small sections of hair, avoiding hair line, gradually building up the shape that is most suitable for your face - it is important to do the "beehive" in front of the mirror so you could decide as you go what looks best on you. Once you think you have enough height, grab the ends and secure them in a twist with a couple of pins. If your hair is long, try a messy pony tail or a bun. This updo is perfect for prom as well as work!
This season big hair is back so why not to try if Brigitte's style works for you? Maybe you will be a sex kitten? ;)

My hairstyle icons - Audrey Hepburn
Wed, 03/26/2008 - 21:17 | 2 comments
Today I came across a list of Most Iconic Screen Hairstyle Of All Time according to Lovefilm.com. That gave me an idea to create my own list of women and men, whose hairdos have made a significant impact through out the history. I have already few candidates for the title of “hairstyle icon” but I would love to hear your opinion – suggestions welcomed!
I decided to start with Audrey Hepburn – no 3 on the Lovefilm.com list, with her timeless updo from “Breakfast at Tiffany”.
The key to Audrey's look is her fringe. Not many of us feel comfortable with short fringe, but in Audrey's case, it made her look extra-cute. Short fringe emphasised her stunning eyes and perfectly shaped, strong eyebrows. If you thinking of getting Audrey's look go for uneven pattern and textured bangs,
so that they appear light and natural.
Audrey's hairstyle "how to's":
"Women can look like Audrey Hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying the large glasses and the little sleeveless dresses" said Audrey. Let's have a look at two of iconic hairstyles.
1. If you have long or medium hair, go for the timeless updo. Part your fringe and pull the rest of your hair in a ponytail and back-comb it a little to give it extra texture. (if your hair is not long enough, make another ponytail couple inches below the top one and hide it underneath it.) Tuck the ends under the ponytail and spray with firm hold spray. This is a perfect style for prom or wedding.
2. For short hair go for Audrey's pixie. This style is back in fashion so try out adding fringe to extra short hair in the back.
